Small Packages

I've heard it said that good things often come in small packages. Jewelry is wrapped in tiny boxes; gift checks are sealed in slender envelopes; and winning lottery tickets take up no space at all. And so it was in February, 2001, when I got that call from NYC...seven and a half pounds...not too heavy...twenty-two inches long...not too big...just the perfect size for Madeline, my first grandchild.

Two weeks after her birth, I along with the Mrs. flew to Manhattan, the Big Apple, to see, hold, and spoil little Madeline. Without exaggerating, I can honestly say that she was the best-looking baby I'd seen in a very long time and proof-positive that very good things do come in small packages.

As a native New Yorker, Madeline easily became the apple of my eye.
